Responsible disclosure

At Steven, we consider the security of our systems a top priority. But no matter how much effort we put into system security, there can still be vulnerabilities present. If you have discovered a potential issue with our system, we would like to know about it so that we can take the steps to address it as quickly as possible. We would like to ask you to help us better protect our clients and our systems.

Reporting guidelines

We encourage you to help us discover and reporting vulnerabilities. To increase user safety, we ask that you:

  • After ensuring your findings isn’t out of scope (see further down in this page), e-mail them as soon as possible to security@getsteven.com. Include sufficient information to reproduce the problem, so we will be able to resolve it as quickly as possible. Usually, the IP address or the URL of the affected system and a description of the vulnerability will be sufficient, but complex vulnerabilities may require further explanation,

  • Do not take advantage of the vulnerability or problem you have discovered. For example by downloading more data than necessary to demonstrate the vulnerability, deleting or modifying other peoples data,

  • Do not use attacks on physical security, social engineering, distributed denial of service, spam or applications of third parties,

  • Do not reveal the problem to others until it has been resolved,

  • Do not use scanners or automated tools to find vulnerabilities,

  • Do not use brute forcing, perform denial of service, spamming, or any other actions that could harm the reliability and integrity of our services and our data,

  • Vulnerabilities on subdomains run on a third party service should be reported to the company behind the service. If unsure ask us at security@getsteven.com and

  • Otherwise comply with all applicable laws.

We reserve the right to disqualify individuals from the program for disrespectful or disruptive behavior. We will not negotiate in response to duress or threats (e.g., we will not negotiate the payout amount under threat of withholding the vulnerability or threat of releasing the vulnerability or any exposed data to the public). We also reserve our right to disqualify individuals from the program if they continuously report vulnerabilities which are out of scope.

Out of scope

The following vulnerabilities are not considered in scope:

  • Presence/absence/configuration of SPF/DKIM/DMARC records

  • Policies concerning password complexity, email verification, or account recovery link expiration

  • Attacks requiring physical access to a user’s device / MiTM attacks requiring installation of a forged TLS certificate

  • Missing security headers unless they can be proven to lead to a security vulnerability such as accessing or stealing user data.

  • Our marketing site, ie the domain getsteven.com and its subdomains.

What we promise

  • We will respond to your report as soon as possible, typically within 3 business days with our evaluation of the report and an expected resolution date,

  • If you have followed the instructions above, we will not take any legal action against you in regard to the report,

  • We will handle your report with strict confidentiality, and not pass on your personal details to third parties without your permission,

  • We will keep you informed of the progress towards resolving the problem,

  • As a token of our gratitude for your assistance, we will attribute you with a special thanks listed on our website after the issue has been resolved. Let us know if you’d like us to include any links to a profile.

Rewards

Bounty rewards are offered for high severity vulnerabilities only, they’re also limited to the Steven App and any servers or applications involved to offer those services.

Severity level low to moderate: No rewards applicable

Severity level high: $25 - $75

Severity level critical: $75-$200

We strive to resolve all problems as quickly as possible, and we would like to play an active role in the ultimate publication on the problem after it’s resolved.
